PPE & Safety Supplies

Personal protective equipment is the last line between a worker and a hazard, and it is also one of the supply categories where the wrong decision is most often made — because the choice gets driven by price alone. We supply PPE specified against the hazard actually present on your site.

Specification before price

PPE is not one item but a broad family, and the differences within a single family are fundamental. A safety boot with a protective toecap is not the same as a slip-resistant boot, which is not the same as an electrically insulating one. A cut-resistant glove and a chemical-resistant glove differ completely in material and application.

Choosing the wrong item does not merely reduce protection — it creates a false sense of safety that can be worse than having no equipment at all. So we start with a question about the hazard on site rather than the budget: is the risk mechanical, chemical, thermal or electrical? How long is the exposure? Is use continuous or occasional?

The categories we supply

Foot protection: safety boots with protective toecaps, slip-resistant and chemical-resistant footwear, and insulating boots. Head protection: helmets of all types with their accessories, face shields and ear defender mounts.

Hand protection: cut-resistant, heat-resistant and chemical-resistant gloves, plus general-purpose work gloves. Eye and face protection: goggles, visors and welding shields. Respiratory protection: masks and respirators across the range of filter types.

Clothing: hi-vis vests, workwear sets and protective garments for specific applications. Alongside these, site safety provisions: barriers, warning tape, signage and first aid supplies.

Sizing: the detail that ruins an order

What derails PPE orders is rarely the supply — it is sizing. An order that arrives complete but with half the boots in unusable sizes has failed in practice, because a worker who cannot find their size will wear nothing.

So we ask for the size distribution within the order, not just the total count. Where a distribution isn't available we propose an estimated one based on common patterns, state plainly that it is an estimate open to adjustment, and leave room for exchange on receipt.

Scheduled replacement instead of urgent orders

PPE is consumable and has a service life. Gloves wear through, a helmet loses its properties after an impact or simply with age, and a hi-vis vest loses its retroreflectivity through repeated washing. The problem is that this decline is gradual, so nobody notices until the item no longer does its job.

The practical approach is a replacement rate rather than waiting for total failure. A fixed item list can be supplied regularly in proportion to headcount and consumption, which avoids the urgent orders that are always more expensive and slower to fulfil.

Alongside maintenance and safety work

Teams carrying out maintenance on your site need protective equipment, firefighting systems need associated consumables, and work areas need marking and securing. Because ALKAYAN operates in both maintenance and supply, these items can sit within the same order rather than requiring a separate purchasing cycle.

Storage and care

PPE loses its properties to poor storage before it loses them to use. A helmet stored in direct sunlight degrades, rubber gloves perish in heat, and protective clothing loses its properties to unsuitable laundering.

For items where it matters we set out the manufacturer's recommended storage and care conditions, because equipment that is nominally serviceable but has degraded in the store is worse than none at all — the worker relies on it while it no longer protects.

Frequently asked

How do you determine the right specification?

We start from the hazard on site — mechanical, chemical, thermal or electrical — along with exposure duration and usage pattern, then propose a suitable specification. The specification supplied is stated in the quotation before delivery.

Can you supply large quantities across mixed sizes?

Yes. We ask for the size distribution within the order; where it isn't available we propose an estimate open to adjustment, with room for exchange on receipt.

Do you support recurring supply for replacements?

Yes, and it suits PPE particularly well because consumption runs at a known rate. A fixed list of items and quantities can be supplied on a schedule instead of through urgent orders.
